Northstowe Community Centre | Plans for a new town's community centre in for planning

South Cambridgeshire District Council has submitted CZWG's plans for a permanent community centre as part of the first phase of the Northstowe new town development. The building will provide vital social infrastructure for the growing community, offering opportunities to meet friends and neighbours, to access information and to take part in running local organisations and councils.

Adam West, CZWG Director said: “The Community Centre is a lean and flexible design, with timber construction to reduce embodied carbon and allow for circular economy principles. The building is designed to meet Passivhaus-level standards, with a simple form and highly insulated and airtight fabric, and mixed-mode ventilation with heat recovery.”

Cllr Bill Handley, Lead Cabinet Member for Communities at South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “Local residents have had lots of input and really helped us to shape the design. We are aiming for a warm and welcoming building that will serve the community and its activities and groups for decades to come and nature and the environment are at the heart of the plans.”

The Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service has now launched a three-week public consultation (planning reference 23/03248/REM). Comments are encouraged by Friday 22 September.
