Commercial and Business Area Masterplan Proposals, Bao'an Bihai, Shenzhen
Client: Commercial and Business Area Masterplan Proposals
Date: Competition December 2010
CZWG and Matrix Partnership have produced design proposals for a new masterplan in Bao’an Bihai, Shenzhen, China. Shenzhen is marked as a pivotal gateway into mainland China and its proximity to Hong Kong will be enhanced with a new coastal motorway and metro links.
The site area is a total of 152.11 hectares that includes a commercial area (‘Commercial Island’ 71.92 ha and residential, open green spaces, restaurants and shops organised along a main boulevard and business centre 80.19 ha, positioned next to the river and water gardens.
The vision for the Bihai masterplan is to create a new tradition in contemporary Chinese city design and will give a focus to an area which has suffered from rapid expansion at the expense of creating beautiful spaces and places for people. It is an opportunity to return to the cultural significance of the landscape within Chinese tradition but at the same time introduce and integrate with modern city design.
