Blackfriars Urban Village
Client: ESG Herefordshire Ltd.
The Blackfriars Urban Village is a new residential located in the northern part of the ESG plan for Hereford.
A street pattern was designed providing an easily understood residential quarter that connects with the adjoining neighbourhoods. The plan not only improves connections for through traffic but also has pedestrian and cycle friendly routes.
The urban village is mainly residential with a mixture of houses, maisonettes and flats. Houses will have private gardens, roof terraces and some have access to shared communal gardens. Car parking will be accommodated including on-street parking, private garages and underground car parks.
Public and private gardens are introduced for both visitors and residents to enjoy. A new canal and basin are incorporated and the Widemarsh Brook will be re-aligned which is united with the urban village. Major cycle and pedestrian routes are created along the canal.
Adjacent to the southern canal basin is a public open space with opportunities for a variety of ground floor uses including community space, corner shops, and facilities for visiting boaters. A great new square in front of the railway station is defined by a hotel and an office building.
